Expert Guidance
Our course is guided by a highly experienced yoga teacher who specializes in prenatal and postnatal care — not just in theory, but in lived practice. With over eight years of teaching and hundreds of hours dedicated to supporting women through the transformative stages of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, your lead instructor brings a depth of wisdom, compassion, and professionalism to every aspect of the training.
What sets this training apart is the integration of both modern knowledge and traditional practices, woven together by a teacher who has worked directly with real families, birth professionals, and wellness practitioners. You’ll learn from someone who deeply understands the subtleties of supporting perinatal students — physically, emotionally, and spiritually — and who walks the talk as a space holder, mentor, and mother.
This isn’t just about gaining skills — it’s about being mentored by someone who embodies the heart of this work, and who is committed to helping you grow into a confident, compassionate, and capable guide for others.

Comprehensive Training
We provide a comprehensive and compassionate education on the unique physical, emotional, and energetic needs of pregnancy and postpartum — because these seasons of life require more than a general approach.
In this training, you’ll gain insight into the physiological changes that occur throughout each trimester and the fourth trimester, and how they impact movement, breath, rest, and emotional well-being. From the shifting hormones to the evolving identity of motherhood, we explore the full spectrum of what it means to support someone through this transformative journey.
You’ll learn how to recognize the common challenges—like pelvic instability, fatigue, anxiety, sleep deprivation, and overwhelm—and how to meet them with appropriate, supportive practices rooted in yoga, mindfulness, and breathwork. You’ll also be guided on how to adapt your teaching to meet a range of experiences, from joyful to tender, from empowering to deeply vulnerable.
We hold space for the real, raw, and radiant — and train you to do the same, with tools that are trauma-informed, inclusive, and rooted in respect.

Heart-Led Approach
Our training is rooted in more than just learning techniques — it’s about leading with empathy, intuition, and care. We believe that every family deserves to be held in a space that honors their emotional and energetic journey, not just their physical one.
This heart-led philosophy means that we guide you to show up as a teacher who listens deeply, holds space without judgment, and connects authentically with both parents and babies. You’ll learn how to foster a compassionate and inclusive environment where Mothers feel seen, heard, and supported — especially during the vulnerable early stages of postpartum life.
We focus on emotional safety just as much as physical safety, helping you become a steady, nurturing presence for your students. Whether you're teaching a baby yoga class, offering one-on-one support, or guiding a group through breathwork and movement, your presence will be guided by softness, strength, and sincere care.
In this training, you’ll not only grow your skillset — you’ll also cultivate the heart-centered leadership that transforms your classes into true sanctuaries for healing and connection.

Tash R. - 200hr Sakalya Yoga Teacher
"During my 200-hour yoga teacher training, Kristin guided me with such compassion and wisdom. She made it fun and taught us how to create asana flows from a new moon practice to working the core (and so much more). Her knowledge of alignment, the anatomy of the body and mindfulness not only deepened my practice, but also helped me find confidence and strength in my teaching journey. I am grateful to have been her student and receive her teachings."
Alba K. - 200hr Sakalya Yoga Teacher - Current 85 Hour Warrior Wellness Student
"I'm taking this training and absolutely loving it! I wouldn't want to be taught by anyone else other than Kristin in regards to pre and postnatal Yoga. Such knowledge and Wisdom. Meet Your Teacher - Kristin Heywood
Birth Companion & Doula | Reiki Master | Pre & Postnatal Yoga + Fitness Teacher
Kristin Heywood has been teaching Pre and Postnatal Yoga and Fitness for over eight years, offering compassionate, evidence-informed support to women through every stage of the motherhood journey. After completing her initial 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2016, she was drawn to specialize in prenatal and postpartum care — honoring birth as a sacred, transformative rite of passage.
She has completed multiple pre and postnatal yoga teacher trainings, including the Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist certification and The Pelvic Pro with Sarah Duvall. Kristin has also been mentored by pelvic physiotherapist Meryl DaCosta, with whom she has co-led numerous pelvic health workshops to support women in reconnecting with their strength, alignment, and inner wisdom.
Her work in pregnancy and postpartum centers around guiding mothers back to themselves — back to their hearts — where she believes all answers reside. With a holistic, heart-led approach, Kristin encourages deep connection, autonomy, and self-trust.
For the past two years, Kristin has been co-teaching the 200-hour Sakalya Yoga Teacher Training alongside Sylvie Laflèche, founder of Crystal Tree Yoga. In this role, she brings her deep expertise in pre and postnatal yoga, pelvic health, and embodied movement to support aspiring teachers in building a strong foundation rooted in integrity, inclusivity, and self-awareness. Kristin's contributions to the training include leading modules on asana, the energetics of the feminine body, trauma-informed teaching, and prenatal/postnatal adaptations — helping to shape a new generation of yoga teachers with both knowledge and heart.
As a Birth and Postpartum Doula, Kristin has supported many women and families across a variety of birth experiences. She now companions women who are choosing to birth at home or outside of conventional medical systems, offering traditional, grounded support rooted in respect and sovereignty.
