Lets talk about Sex post Baby

At 6 weeks post-partum, most women are told that they can return to sexual activity. Most women report some mild pain/discomfort initially, however, this improves over time. Approximately 30% of women who have had their first baby still have pain with sexual intercourse at 6 months post-partum.

Perineal tears/incisions are usually fully healed by 6-8 weeks post-partum. Pain after this is commonly due to how the tissues have healed. This can lead to tenderness and overactivity of the pelvic floor or abdominal muscles. Scar tissue can lack mobility or adhere to underlying tissues. These tissues can look normal yet they can be very sensitive to touch. Pain can also come from the muscles being a bit tight.

Here's 3 things to try:

  1. Use lots of water based lube, not the KY!

  2. Don't forget the foreplay!

  3. Take a few deep diaphragm breaths beforehand to get yourself relaxed
